May Calendar




Important Reminders and Notifications


Intent to Return to CALS: Please fill out this survey to alert us of your child’s intent to return to our school next year. We need this information no later than this Friday, May 14th so that we’re able to begin inviting new students to join the CALS community. We do hope you intend to stay with us!


3rd & 4th Grade Families: STATE EXAM ANNOUNCEMENT – All 3rd and 4th grade scholars will take the Math state exam online on Wednesday, May 19th. Please ensure your scholars log on to their Google Classroom and Ring Central link at 8:00 AM for specific instructions on this day. You may see the attached letter in English, Spanish and Creole regarding state exams from our Chief Schools Officer.

2nd-4th Grade Supply Kit Pick-Up: Families can STILL stop by CALS to collect a student supply kit from 3:15-4:45 on Mondays – Thursdays and from 7:30-1:30 on Fridays. For students who are in person, supply kits will be given to the child(ren) directly during school hours.

Rising 5th Grade Reminder: CALS current 4th graders are automatically enrolled into Canarsie Ascend Middle School’s (CAMS) 5th grade next year. Below are some important dates to consider!

  • Aug. 16-20 5th Grade Scholar Orientation

  • Aug. 23 Full-length School Day Begins!


Technology Access Reminder: Families, please be extremely careful with any and all technology provided on behalf of Ascend. Usage of laptops and Wi-Fi hot spots should be limited when not in use for school purposes and stored in a safe and secure spot. The better care you give towards the technology, the better it will work.


Family Association Updates


In case you missed it, please see the presentation from Tuesday’s Family Association Meeting here. Please join us for our next Family Association Meeting happening next month on Tuesday, June 8th @ 6pm. We hope to see you there!

The CALS Family Association is collaborating with the CALS Counseling team on hosting the second workshop for Mental Health Awareness Month. The workshop will be facilitated by NY Project Hope which is a program through Partnership for Children. Both parents and school staff members can attend, so we hope to see you at the session below!

Our CALS counselors would like to share the book of the month for May, Rocket Says Look Up! by Nathan Bryon. Visit their virtual counseling office, or their google classroom to access lots of additional info and fun activities.
