Greetings Canarsie Cub Families:

Please see our Weekly Scoop for the week of 11/04 - 11/10 of the 2020-2021 School Year! I have attached documents, and provided links for all the family resources down below.

Be reminded that all students will be remote through November 24th, 2020. Please see this letter from our Interim CEO, Lisa Margosian regarding the re-opening of schools in Phase 3, which starts on November 30th.

November Calendar:

In preparation for students returning to our school building, please help us prepare our CALS lobby by coming to pick up your Student Headphones, Fundations Kits for KG, 1st, & 2nd grade, and Literature Circle books for 3rd & 4th grade. We are on site at the school Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30PM.

Upcoming Save The Dates:

  • 3rd & 4th Grade ELA Benchmark Testing will take place on November 9th and November 10th. Please read this letter from Assistant Principal Mr. Moorman.

  • Progress Report Conferences will be held on November 19th and November 20th. Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you soon to schedule a virtual progress report conference to be held on either 11/19 or 11/20. Students will have asynchronous instruction on both days.

  • Report Card/Assessment Family-Accessibility: This year, families will be able to access their student(s)'s report cards and assessment scores via the Illuminate Student Portal using your student(s)'s google credentials. Please see this simple How-To guide for accessing the Illuminate Student Portal. Please note that report cards will be ready for download on November 17th.

CALS Resources:

  • The CALS Family Association is back! We understand that this year, more than ever, is an important time to stay connected as a community. We would like to re-launch the CALS’ Family Association and are actively seeking members for various levels of involvement. If you’re interested in participating, please fill out this survey and a member of our school will reach out to you about our first Family Association meeting set to take place in November!

  • CALS Clinicians’ Team Student Resource Document

  • Our CALS clinicians have opened their Virtual Counseling Office! Students have been invited to join their google classroom (Virtual Counseling Office) where they will have access to information on after school activities, information about transitioning to middle school (for 4th grade), social emotional learning resources, strategies for distance learning, and anti-racist resources. Check out the Coping Corner and keep your eyes peeled for social emotional learning book recommendations.

  • DOE Meal Locations: Charter School Families can now pick up meals at any of these city locations.

  • Introducing SimplyE, the New York Public Library’s FREE, open source e-reader Mobile App that provides their entire collection of more than 300,000 e-books & audio books!! You can borrow up to (3) book titles at a time, and have access to them for (2) weeks.

  • Holy Family Church is hosting their Annual Thanksgiving Meal Event on November 26. 2020, from 11:00AM-1:00PM. This will be a grab and go event; Meal distribution is done from the Conklin Avenue School Entrance. Must must be worn, and social distancing will be practiced.
